Dr Mark Brewin

Dr Mark Brewin PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), Dip IPEM, PGCert, is a registered clinical scientist with a keen interest in lasers and burns scars.  He has been employed at 69ÀÏʪ»ú¸£Àû District Hospital since 2013 as a principal clinical scientist within the 69ÀÏʪ»ú¸£Àû Laser Clinic and as R&D lead in the Burns Unit. Mark plays an active role in both the development and improvement of the laser service, as well as encouraging active research in Burns and Plastics. His main research interest lies in the use of lasers to prevent and treat hypertrophic burns scars. Mark previously worked at the Royal London Hospital (now Barts Health NHS Trust) as a research physicist in medical ultrasound for 11 years.  There he attained his PhD from Queen Mary University of London in 2010 in Biomedical Ultrasound. He is a peer reviewer of scientific papers for several journals and is a member of the advisory editorial board for Scar, Burns & Healing.  He is an active member of both the British Burns Association and the British Medical Laser Association. Mark works closely with several research groups and charities to promote work to improve the outcome from burns scars. Recently he has acquired funding from National Institute of Healthcare Research under the Research for Patient Benefit Programme. This is for a national multicentre randomised controlled trial to look at both the clinical and cost effectiveness of early laser treatment in hypertrophic burns scars.
