Banana is a giant herbaceous plant belonging to the Musa genre.
Musa is one of two or three genera in the family Musaceae.
An edible fruit from an endogenous plant of the tropic. The plant seems to be native to Southeast Asia and East Indies. The fruit itself was encountered by European explorers investigating the West coast of Africa. Sailors from Europe came across this fruit in local ports ,borrowing its name from the local language of Wolof (native language of the Wolof people) or Mandingo (language spoken by the Mandinka people).Africans are credited to have given the present name, since the word banana would be derived from the Arab for ‘finger’. Arabs introduced the fruit to Africa from India in prehistoric times. Later on brought to the New World from Africa.

Bananas are perennial herbs that replace themselves, often mistaken for trees, palm trees.
Banana trunks consists of all the leaf stalks wrapped around each other. New leaves start growing inside, below the ground. They push up through the middle and emerge from the centre of the crown. So does the flower, which finally turns into a bunch of bananas. The average temperature for the fruit to grow is 27° C (80° F) and average rainfall is between 1900 to 2500 mm per year following with moisturized fertile soil and good drainage. Unlike other fruit, bananas are available all year round.
Banana fruits form in late summer.
They reach mature size the following spring. When the fruit is still green and plump it is nearly ripe and should be harvested. They are always harvested by hand using a two-person team. Harvesting takes place in autumn.
The Banana bunches are transported to a packing warehouse where they get washed, sorted, treated and inspected for their quality.
· Post-harvest fumigation
To avoid the presence of pests or insects that may affect the quality, the fruit will be fumigated with the following post-harvest products:
